Product description

Photographic film is a sheet of plastic (polyester, nitrocellulose or cellulose acetate) coated with an emulsion containing light-sensitive silver halide salts (bonded by gelatin) with variable crystal sizes that determine the sensitivity, contrast and resolution of the film.

When the emulsion is sufficiently exposed to light (or other forms of electromagnetic radiation such as X-rays), it forms a latent (invisible) image.

Chemical processes can then be applied to the film to create a visible image, in a process called film developing.

File:Undeveloped film.png

In black-and-white photographic film there is usually one layer of silver salts. When the exposed grains are developed, the silver salts are converted to metallic silver, which block light and appear as the black part of the film negative.

Color film uses at least three layers. Dyes, which adsorb to the surface of the silver salts, make the crystals sensitive to different colors.

Typically the blue-sensitive layer is on top, followed by the green and red layers.

During development, the exposed silver salts are converted to metallic silver, just as with black and white film. But in a color film, the by-products of the development reaction simultaneously combine with chemicals known as color couplers that are included either in the film itself or in the developer solution to form colored dyes.

Because the by-products are created in direct proportion to the amount of exposure and development, the dye clouds formed are also in proportion to the exposure and development.

Following development, the silver is converted back to silver salts in the bleach step. It is removed from the film in the fix step. This leaves behind only the formed color dyes, which combine to make up the colored visible image.

Newer color films, like Kodacolor II, have as many as 12 emulsion layers, with upwards of 20 different chemicals in each layer.

Due to film photography's long history of widespread use, there are now around one trillion pictures on photographic film or photographic paper in the world, enough to cover an area of around ten thousand square kilometres (4000 square miles), about half the size of Wales.

Customer Review: Great for fashion/portfolio work
This film is amazing. If you are shooting with a model or doing formal pix this is the film for you. Here are 4 suggestions to milk this for all its worth: When you get this developed tell them NO corrections (I ask for a photo cd and edit myself if needed), make sure the sun isn't covered by clouds or you will dull the colors, use a tripod and finally, if shooting indoors make sure you use modeling lights or at least 2 external flashes (this film needs more light then a plant) Tip: f-stops 4-8 makes your subject silky smooth.
Customer Review: The perfect color film for landscape and architectural photos
I remember how excited I was a couple of years ago when I found out that Kodak was going to release a NEW film. That excitement has definitely been justified. Ektar 100 captures absolutely beautiful pictures. The grain is razor sharp and the colors are incredible. It has a unique look to it, which I've never seen with any other film (or digital for that matter). The colors are vibrant and saturated, especially red and blue. It's one of my favorite color films now. It's perfect for landscape and architectural photos, or any pictures where you really want the colors to "pop." If you take a picture of something red contrasting against the blue sky, it really jumps...much more so than I've seen with any other film. Every film has its own unique characteristics and has a certain look. I like using Ektar for when I want kind of a "fresh" vibrant look to pictures, if that makes sense. I've used Ektar in both 35mm and 120 size rolls. The only minor complaint I have about Ektar is that it's extremely unforgiving with exposure. This is definitely NOT a film for beginners. It's very picky about exposure, and doesn't handle underexposure well at all. If you underexpose it, you will get some pretty weird color shifts and everything will have kind of a bluish tint. BUT if you use a light meter and you're careful about the exposure, you will get absolutely amazing pictures. I also recommend that you get your pictures printed (on REAL silver halide photographic paper, not ink jet!) Ektar looks its best in prints, and scans displayed on a computer screen just don't do it justice.
Kodak Professional T-Max 400 - Black & white print film - 120 (6 cm) - ISO 400 - 5 rolls
A continuous tone, panchromatic black-and-white negative film that is especially useful for photographing dimly lighted subjects, fast action, extended range flash pictures, and subjects that require good depth of field. This film is highly useful for scientific and biomedical work, especially when fluorescence photography is required. Its high speed (EI 400), very high sharpness, extremely fine grain, and high resolving power enable a high degree of enlargement. You can expose it at a speed of EI 800 with normal processing, or at EI 1600 with push-processing to obtain excellent results.
Customer Review: So awesome for the budding photographer.
My husband was elated with his present. This was a great buy and awesome that Amazon has this listed. Very pleased with the pictures after being developed.
Customer Review: Film review
Overall, the product and service were top notch. The film was delivered in a very timely manner, and it worked splendidly. The only gripe I had at all with this product was the incredibly high shipping and handling of the product.
Fujifilm INSTAX TWIN PACK Instax Instant Film Twin Pack - Two Packs of 10
Fujifilm Instax Instant Color Film is professional grade and provides superior performance.
Customer Review: disappointed
I bought fuji instax mini 7s with this instax wide film because it was on the "Frequently Bought Together" section. This film was with the mini camera which is totally wrong! When i got this and opened it, i just laughed.. film is BIGGER than camera!lol NOW What can i do with this damm giant film? (ex. draw your own picture on film instead using camera XD)
Customer Review: Good product for an old camera
Bought this for a Fuji camera - color and quality of film is what you would expect for an instamatic - nothing like what you can get today on digital, but that's not why you're buying instamatic film. No issues with film age. Liked the pricing for a two pack.
Kodak Advantix 200 Speed 25 Exposure APS Film ( 3 Pack)
Load your camera bag with these film packs and you're ready for the fun to begin. The Kodak Advantix 200 speed color film comes in a 75-exposure 3-pk. Made in USA.
Customer Review: film
the film was supposed to be in a 3 pack but it came in 3 individual packs. the product is fine
Customer Review: Advantix Film
I was very happy to find Advantix Film at amazon. It is impossible to buy from the big box stores or a neighborhood store any more. I ordered 2-3pks as once that is gone I may have a digital camera. I was disappointed in the cost of the shipping. I know the shipping didn't cost no $13.00 so it must be the cost of putting it in the mailing envelope. Service was excellent however.
Fujifilm Instax MINI 7s White Instant Film Camera

Fujinon Lens - f=60mm, Electronic Shutter 1/60 sec., Auto Flash in low light, auto adjust Manual exposure compensation, Weight: 11.29 oz., Image Size: 2.13" x 3.4", Uses Fujifilm INSTAX Mini Film
Customer Review: Bad Shipping Policy
I ordered this camera and they shipped it requiring a signature. Talk about overdoing it for a relatively cheap item. My other products here always make it okay but this one ended up at my regional UPS Office 1/2 hour away. So, I never received the item. Ridiculous to ship this way. I'll order somewhere else so I can actually receive it without babysitting a delivery.
Customer Review: Instant memories
I LOVE THIS camera. I take it everywhere. It is handy, easy to use, unique. The quiality is amazing considering how the photo's are credit card size. I recommend this to photographers, kids, families, friends, everyone really! Only thing I don't like is that you can find film in 1 pack(of two 10film) It is basically 1$ per photo...so oh well what can you do? lol I love it nonetheless ;)

Fujifilm Media 25367025 Empty Color Slim Jewel Cases - 25 Pack

Customer Review: Very thin and fragile
These cases are very thin and fragile, but do provide protection for the CD's. They are not boxed, but wrapped in thin plastic. The first order came with many CD's cracked because it evidently bumped around in the shipping box. Amazon quickly replaced the order. The next ones weren't boxed well either, but they did arrive undamaged. I ended up making more use of the paper sleeves, which are much more cost effective.
Customer Review: These are the best.
I have never had a problem with any of these empty slim-line cases and I've bought hundreds of them. None have ever cracked and they all open and close easily.

Customer Review: The best all around film ever!!
I have been taking pictures constantly for about 3 years. I have shot with a myrid of film. However, Kodak film is hands down the best film I have ever shot with. The color is bright and vivid and you don't get the dull color or one color brighter than another than othe films out there. Yeah, you have to pay a little more for Kodak. But, trust me it is well worth it!! No matter what situation or occasion or subject this is the perfect film to not only get the shot but preserve it forever. So go ahead and open up that moldy wallet of yours and get it. You won't be sorry!!!
Customer Review: good deal
I am a freelance photographer and I go thru films like there is no tomorrow. This is probably one of the best deals around. Kodak is very high quality and I used them all the time. Highly recommend this to anyone who takes pictures with any kind of 35mm camera.

Customer Review: Awesome Film
This film produces some amazing colors with an insane amount of detail. Priced at about $4 a roll I'd say its a good value for a very high quality film.
Customer Review: It shoots almost like slide film
A great film... however, in a few situation of diminishing light (dusk), overexposure is a good insurance policy. I should have been aware that the light was fast moving way off the mark and unlike other films, over compensation would have been best... my fault more than the film. That was just a few shots out of bunches more that were great. Sharpness... lets be real... Tons of sharpness and detail! There has been many discussions in film forums about "pink or purple cast shadows", but I found a few situations were my FILM SCANNER was not dealing with the film well. Minor adjustments seemed to fix this. I'll be stocking up on this stuff again soon.

Customer Review: Polaroid 600 film expired but still worked
The film expired before the purchase the date. Luckily it still worked but I paid more specifically to get film that had not expired.
Customer Review: polaroid film
I am very upset that this film is no longer being made. My camera and this film were and still are wonderful. I love this film and my camera...so do my grandchildren. It is wonderful how it encourages them to have fun taking pictures and watch as they develop.

Customer Review: Very grainy unless lighting is perfect
This is a very limited versatility 400 speed film better suited to the studio than real life applications. I've found that it is grainy unless used in a very controlled environment. Even good lighting outdoors produces less than satisfactory results. With the right lighting, the film does produce very pleasing skin tones. However, the amount of work that requires is frustrating unless you are a primarily and most comfortably a studio photographer. If you do much shooting outdoors, skip it.
Kodak Advantix 400 Speed 25 Exposure APS Film (3 Pack)
Welcome to the innovative world of the Advanced Photo System and Kodak ADVANTiX films! At the heart of the Advanced Photo System, Kodak ADVANTiX films are truly hybrid products. They use breakthrough photographic emulsion and coating technologies to deliver excellent image quality in the smaller film format. At the same time, Kodak's magnetics technology enables coating the entire surface of the film with a transparent magnetic layer. This layer records digital information that links all Advanced Photo System components through information exchange (IX). IX permits communication between you, the camera, the film, and the photofinishing equipment in the lab that processes and prints your film.Kodak ADVANTiX 400 multi-purpose film is the right choice for use in low light, for fast action, for zoom photography, and for extending your flash distance range. This improved high-speed film delivers more accurate color rendition, with more vibrant, saturated colors - an enhancement that's particularly noticeable in film that's been accidentally overexposed. Its improved fine grain means outstanding panoramic shots - even when film is underexposed. Optimized skin-tone rendition means great people pictures. And better printing compatibility with other films in the lab means consistent, high-quality prints for you. This film incorporates T-Grain emulsions technology to provide excellent performance in low-light situations or where extended flash range is necessary, and the sharpness usually associated with lower-speed films.
Customer Review: APS FILM - HARD TO FIND
I am hanging on to my APF film camera in this time of digital photography. The one problem I have now is finding film for the camera that takes great photos. The next problem I expect to encounter will be getting the film developed when I have used the film. So far I was very pleased to have a source where the film was available - will see how the photos come out.
Customer Review: Good quality but high shipping charge.
As more and more products keep coming out, it is becoming difficult to find supplies for products only a few years old. I would prefer to buy this item at a local store if it was made available.

Customer Review: Lucky to still find some
Was looking for some availale Poloroid 600 film. Found it, used it, all went well.
Customer Review: great
You can't find Polaroid film in stores anymore, so being able to buy it online from Amazon was great. Plus the price was about what I would have expected to pay in the store, or a little cheaper. Because of the scarcity of finding this product in a store, needless to say, don't use the camera as much, but least now I know where to find the film when I need more. Thank you.
Kodak Professional TRI-X 400/400TX 35mm Black-and-White Film, 36-Exposure Roll
The Kodak Professional TRI-X 400/400TX Black-and-White Film is a high-speed panchromatic film that is a good choice for photographing dimly lit subjects or fast action. It is also an excellent choice for photographing subjects that require good depth of field and fast shutter speeds, as well as for extending the distance range for flash pictures. This roll of TRI-X 400 film (400TX) is a 35-millimeter roll and is recommended for push-processing applications. TRI-X 400 black-and-white film delivers fine grain that is good for producing high-quality images; wide exposure latitude for rich tonality maintained with overexposure and underexposure; high sharpness that is good for applications that require a moderate degree of enlargement; and a high resolving power for a good rendition of detail. All of these features makes the TRI-X 400 film an excellent choice for professional black-and-white photographers.
Customer Review: Great for Darkroom Dwellers
It's been a while since I've splashed around in a darkroom, but seeing that Tri-X is still produced has got me thinking about setting up my development gear again and doing the old magic with all its strange lighting and smells and trickling water. Anyway, Tri-X definitely makes grainy prints, but that's the beauty of it. Digital black and white just doesn't have the mystery about it that this old film has, and creating a bit of wonder is what black and white is all about.
Customer Review: Shot Tri-X 400 for two semesters
I bought a brick of this several years ago for a couple of black-and-white photography classes and was pretty pleased with it. Tri-X requires less development time than TMax, so there's less waiting around until you can get back to the fun stuff in the darkroom. It is a little grainy because of the film speed, but in this case the grain gave the finished photos a very pleasing quality that I wouldn't have had if I'd shot with some slower film.
Kodak Max Versatility Plus 800 Color Print Film, 16 Rolls (384 Exposures)
.
Customer Review: Quite good....
The leader in the field does it again! A great product, but I sometimes feel the hype is too much. I would suggest it if it was the only alternative.
Customer Review: Very Good
Kodak is a brand name you can trust. I recently took a lot of pictures of our son. His kindergarten graduation, the zoo, etc. The color and sharpness were just amazing with the KODAK film. It offers a wide range of use in varying light . And even got some amazing pictures of some "iffy" shots. I highly recommend the KODAK Versatility Plus 800 Color Print film and the exceptional value will have you using this as your "everyday" film. John Row
Kodak Kodacolor Gold 400 GC Color Negative Film ISO 400, 110 Size, 24 Exposure, *USA*
Clear, vibrant pictures with ISO 400-speed color print films. Excellent sharpness and fine grain provide high quality pictures that you'll be proud to share with others, even when enlarged. Designed for exposure with daylight or electronic flash, you can also obtain pleasing results under most existing-light conditions without filters. This 400 speed film helps over come the slow lenses associated with 110 size cameras. Use this film to insure no memories are missed
Customer Review: Alas, it is no more
Sadly, Kodak and everyone else has now quit making 110 film. $20.00 a roll is a pretty steep price for those rolls that still remain. I've started reloading 110 cassettes. There are several web sites that will give you instructions in how to do so. I've been reloading cassettes with 200 speed Fuji. I slit 35mm film down to size and use it in my Pentax Auto110. The higher end 110 cameras, like the Pentax, the Rollei A110 and E110, and the Minolta 110 slrs don't need the sprocket holes to cock the shutter as do cheaper 110 cameras. After you've done it enough times, it's not too difficult. And it sure beats the $20.00 a roll the one merchant is asking.
Customer Review: Retro-cool 110 film in a digital world.
Even in this digital age, I still love using my Pentax Auto 110 SLR, and Kodak's 110 is a wonderful film. So much better than 110 used to be back in the 70's. The grain is miniscule, the colors are bright, true and beautifully saturated. The photos look like 35mm pics. It's hard to believe you can get these kinds of results from tiny 16mm 110 film, but you can with a great film and a decent camera. Break out that old Pocket Instamatic again and starting shooting while Kodak still makes this film. Hey, it's retro-cool!
Kodak Gold Max 800 Speed 24 Exposure 35mm Film (4 Pack)
Kodak Gold Max 800 film offers maximum versatility for 35mm zoom cameras. Get great results in a wide range of light conditions, indoors or out. This film works well for fast sports and even still-life photography. Rich color saturation, greater flash range, and great capturing of depth and shadow are all possible in sunlight or low light. There are four rolls of film in this pack, each with 24 exposures.
Customer Review: Fast Film, Wide Range
... I would dare to say the photo-finishing lab has a lot to do with the results you see. I was horrified by one lab I tried recently. Incompetence in the lab can totally ruin your prized shots. As always, it's best to shoot a test roll or two and make sure you don't photograph anything you can't reshoot later. Test a new lab the same way, with photos that can be redone. Keep this film cool. Refrigerate unopened rolls and let them aclimate before using. Try to load your camera in as much darkness as you can achieve. Process this film as soon as you can, after shooting. Leaving the film sitting around or in heat will cause the dyes to deteriorate. If you need to travel by air, ask for a hand-inspection at the airport. Don't pack this film in checked luggage. It is more sensitive to X-Ray equipment than an average film. This film actually has a better grain index (48) than Kodak's professional negative film (Portra - index 50) at a 4.4 magnification, ISO 800. (I haven't seen any other index value data from Kodak for this film, so I can't comment about larger print sizes.) If you need a fast color film for poor lighting conditions or for action photos, this is a good film. It is not as good in controlled lighting situations as the Portra or Supra or even Royal Gold films at lower ISO ratings. If you need the speed and don't intend to enlarge beyond 5x, this film is perfect. If you need to enlarge beyond that, the grain becomes more and more apparent. In photography, as in every other endeavor, choose the right tool for the job. Film is a very important tool for serious photography. Don't depend on just one type of film.
Customer Review: Great film
I have used this film for years--with both my older point and shoot Cannon 135 Zoom and my current Nikon N65. The fact that it is a higher speed film makes it very versatile for all types of situations I shoot in--indoors, outdoors, low light, beach photography, fast-action sporting events, etc. I have not had a problem with graininess but I have not blown pictures up past 11x14 size. I have shot approximately 200+ rolls with this film and my lab has never had to color-correct my film. I wonder if some people who use this film and have had problems with graininess have more of a problem with their camera or photo processing lab than it is with the film. This film can be used in all types of situations and I will keep using it with confidence!

Customer Review: An underestimated product....
Just received this today and immediately pressed it into service. Had to return a previous purchase of another product which just didn't cut it. This scanner is amazing for its speed and versatility. I've scanned several hundred slides with perfect results. I am amazed that the advertising for this product does not include the fact that it has 32mb of internal memory as well as utilizing SD cards. Very pleased with this product and its performance.
Customer Review: Mediocre product, Great seller
I bought this item with the sole intention of scanning negatives. It came complete with everything I needed to do that. It also came with most other accessories you would need if you wanted to scan pictures or slides. The 3 trays for different picture sizes are good for the most common picture formats. I found it very easy to use and the onscreen menu is very straight forward once you get use to it. To scan, you just push a button and that's it. It's essentially a small 5MP camera inside the box that takes a picture. It you are scanning negatives the scanner knows this because you slide a switch before you insert the negatives. The software in the scanner does a good job of reversing the negative automatically. The problem was that the quality was just mediocre. One of the issues was when adjusting the brightness or contrast of the scanned image the center was always darker. Maybe a bad lens or CCD in the scanner. Another problem I had; to insure the film frame is perfectly centered there are notches in the negative tray that are securely locked in at each frame while you push the tray through. Well after about 100 pictures, whatever grabs those notches broke. So I had to be careful and hold the tray with one hand and make sure I didn't move while I captured the image. This was frustrating. I tried to contact the manufacturer and got no response; unacceptable. So I contacted the seller, Slim Sharp, and got an immediate response. After a few e-mails, they e-mailed a shipping label and I returned it. After a few days we were refunded 100%. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the seller, and they always responded to our e-mails quickly and courteously. This is a product with promise. It doesn't seem like it would take much to make it a winner. But right now I can't recommend it. If they come out with a higher quality version I would probably purchase it; especially from Slim Sharp.

Customer Review: Works fine at ISO 300
I used this film recently on a trip and it worked fine. The grain was acceptably small. But I shot it with the camera set to ISO 300 rather than 400. The grain was not large when shot this way. The grains that catch the darker colors on films are larger than the ones that catch the light shades. So if you shoot with the ISO set a half stop down you will always get smaller grain in your shots. It may just be that the Kodak Max 400 is not very close to being a true 400 ISO and that the Kodak Royal and Fuji Superia 400 is. So if shot at 400 particularly if the camera meters off a bit the result can be grainy because mostly the most light sensitive large grains are activated. But if shot at ISO 300 Kodak Max works fine in a pinch. Not all cameras will let you adjust the ISO film speed setting. But if yours does try shooting all your film at a half stop lower and you should get better results across the board.
Customer Review: It's where you have your film processed that counts!
Like it says on the box, this is a versatile film, able to adapt to various light conditions and temperatures. Kodak is the leader in film and this is a quality product. Based on recommendations from photographer friends, I take my film to a reputable processor and the pictures come out beautifully every time, a testament to the film and the developer. Of course, the higher priced Royal Gold is better but you get what you pay for...and Gold 400 does its job well.
